What Exactly is Post-UTME? 🎓
Post-UTME is a university-level screening exam that comes after JAMB. Each school conducts its own. The purpose is to further reduce the number of candidates since JAMB alone cannot give every school enough shortlisting power. Your final admission aggregate is usually a combination of your JAMB score and your Post-UTME score — the exact formula varies by school, but most use a 50/50 or 60/40 split.
How Post-UTME Differs from JAMB ⚖️
Your 3-Week Preparation Plan 📅
📘 Week 1 — Know Your School's Pattern
Find your school's specific Post-UTME past questions. Every university has a pattern —
some focus on speed, some on difficulty, some test general knowledge alongside your subjects.
Do at least 2 years of your school's past papers. Note which topics appear most.
📗 Week 2 — Intensive Subject Practice
Focus on your course subjects. Do 30–50 questions per subject daily.
Use JAMB past questions as backup — the topics overlap significantly.
Time yourself. Post-UTME is usually faster-paced than JAMB — you may have less than 40 seconds per question.
📙 Week 3 — Full Simulations & Admin
Do full timed mock tests every day. Also handle the admin side this week:
confirm your exam date, venue or online link, what ID to bring, and whether you need a printout of your JAMB result.
Do not leave these for the last minute.
Tips That Give You an Edge 💡
1
A High JAMB Score Gives You Breathing Room
If your JAMB score is already strong, you do not need a perfect Post-UTME score to get admitted.
Work backwards — find your school's aggregate formula, calculate the minimum Post-UTME score you need,
and aim just above that. This keeps you focused instead of overwhelmed.
2
Speed Matters More Than in JAMB
Post-UTME exams at many schools give you 30–45 minutes for 60–80 questions.
That is less than 40 seconds per question. If you are not practicing with a timer, you will run out of time.
Start every practice session with a stopwatch running.
3
Check If Your School Uses CBT or Paper
Some schools conduct Post-UTME as CBT (computer-based), others still use paper.
If it is CBT, practice on a device — navigating questions on screen feels different
from paper and costs time if you are not used to it.
See the JAMB CBT guide for CBT tips →
4
Arrive Early on Exam Day
Many students are turned away because they arrive late for Post-UTME.
Arrive at least 45 minutes before your session. Bring your JAMB result slip,
a valid ID, your Post-UTME registration printout, and a passport photograph.
Confirm the requirements on your school's official website the day before.
5
Do Not Ignore Use of English
Even for science and engineering courses, most universities include English comprehension
or vocabulary questions in their Post-UTME. Do not assume it is only your core subjects.
Practice English questions alongside your subject papers.

Common Questions 🤔
Two to three weeks is enough for most schools. Post-UTME tests the same subjects as JAMB —
so if you already prepared well for JAMB, you are already 70% ready. Spend the remaining time
doing your target school's specific past questions, because each university has its own style.
Post-UTME is a screening exam conducted by universities after JAMB to further shortlist candidates.
Not all universities conduct it — but for most federal and state universities, it is compulsory.
Always check your chosen school's admission page for their specific requirements.
JAMB is national — same exam for everyone. Post-UTME is set by each university individually.
Post-UTME is usually shorter (40–100 questions), faster, and focuses on your specific course subjects.
The questions are often harder than JAMB and the time per question is tighter.
It depends on the school and course. For competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering
in top universities, aim for 60% and above. Your Post-UTME score is combined with your JAMB score —
a high JAMB score gives you more room in Post-UTME.
Yes — and you should. The topics are the same. However, also look for your target school's
specific Post-UTME past questions, because universities often have their own question style and difficulty.
Practice both for the best preparation.
