What You Need Before Starting

Registration Steps (Detailed)

Go to the Official JAMB Website

Visit jamb.gov.ng from your computer or phone. Make sure you're on the official site (check the URL carefully — scammers create fake sites). Bookmark it so you don't accidentally visit a phishing site.

Click "Create New Account" or "Register"

Look for the registration link on the homepage. It usually says "Start Registration" or "Create Account". Click it to start the process.

Enter Your National Identification Number (NIN)

You will be asked to enter your 11-digit NIN. This is linked to your basic information with NIMC (National Identification Management Commission). JAMB will auto-fetch your name, date of birth, and address from the NIMC database. Make sure the information is correct.

Verify Your Details

JAMB will display information pulled from NIMC: your full name, date of birth, gender, state of origin. Review this carefully. If any detail is wrong, you may face issues during screening. Contact NIMC or JAMB if corrections are needed.

Create Your JAMB Account Password

Set a strong password (at least 8 characters, mix of numbers and letters). Write it down somewhere safe. You will use this password every time you log in. Do NOT share it with anyone, even friends.

Enter Your Email and Phone Number

Provide an active email address and a valid Nigerian mobile phone number. You will receive your JAMB Registration Number (RegNo) and PIN via email and SMS. Keep these safe — you need them to log in and sit for the exam.

Upload Your Passport Photograph

Upload a recent color passport photo (white/light background). The photo should be clear — your face visible, looking straight at the camera. File size is usually limited to 2–5 MB. Formats accepted: JPG, PNG.

Select Your Exam Center

Choose where you want to sit for JAMB. Centers are spread across all states. Pick one that is closest to you or most convenient. You can see the address and contact info for each center.

Select Your JAMB Subjects (4 subjects)

This is critical. Use our JAMB Subject Combination guide to pick the right 4 subjects for your course. Use of English is compulsory. Choose your other 3 based on your target course. You cannot change subjects after registration is complete.

Upload Your O'Level Result

Upload a copy of your WAEC or NECO result. This should be a recent scan or photo of your actual certificate. The image must be clear and legible. File size limit is usually 3–5 MB.

Pay the Registration Fee

The JAMB registration fee is typically ₦4,700 (as of 2026). Payment methods include:

Online banking (transfer to JAMB account)
Debit card (Visa/Mastercard)
Mobile money (through agents)
JAMB scratch cards (sold at banks and agents)

After payment, you will receive a confirmation. Keep this receipt.

Generate Your JAMB Registration PIN

After payment, JAMB will generate a unique PIN and email it to you. This PIN is what you use to access the testing portal on exam day. Save it carefully. It's usually valid for the entire exam period.

Print Your Exam Details/Admit Card

Log back into your account and print your exam details (admit card). This contains your exam date, time, center, and serial number. Print 2–3 copies. You MUST bring the original to the exam center.

Registering with wrong NIN

If your NIN is incorrect, your records won't match NIMC, and you'll have problems during screening. Double-check before submitting.

Choosing wrong subject combination

Poor quality passport photo

JAMB may reject blurry, side-angled, or dark photos. Get a proper passport photo taken.

Registering too late

Last-minute registrations risk payment failures and internet issues. Register in the first week.

Using wrong email or phone

You won't receive your PIN or updates. Use an email and phone you check regularly.

Forgetting your PIN or registration number

Write them down. You need them to take the exam. JAMB won't reset them easily.

Your NIN might be registered incorrectly with NIMC, or you typed it wrong. Verify your NIN on the NIMC website (nimc.gov.ng) first. If it's correct there but JAMB doesn't recognize it, contact JAMB support or visit your nearest JAMB office in person.

Try a different payment method. If debit card fails, try online banking or mobile money. Check that your card has enough funds and is not blocked by your bank. Ensure you have a stable internet connection. If all fails, buy a JAMB scratch card from a registered agent and use the PIN.

Check your email spam folder first. If still not there after 2 hours, log into your JAMB account and request a PIN resend. Make sure your phone number and email are correct in your profile. Contact JAMB if it's still not arriving within 24 hours.
