General Rules for All Courses 📋
1️⃣
Use of English is Compulsory for Everyone
No matter your course — Medicine, Law, Agriculture, or Education — you must register Use of English as one of your 4 JAMB subjects. It is not optional.
2️⃣
Your Subjects Must Match Your O'Level Credits
The subjects you register in JAMB must match the O'Level (WAEC/NECO) credits you are presenting for admission. For example, if you register Physics in JAMB, you must also have Physics credit in your O'Level result.
3️⃣
Check Your Target University's Requirements
JAMB sets the minimum combination, but individual universities can require extra subjects. For example, some universities require Mathematics for Law even though JAMB does not. Always confirm with your specific school.
4️⃣
You Cannot Change Subjects After Registration
Once you complete your JAMB registration and pay, your subject combination is locked. Take time to verify your subjects before you submit — mistakes cannot be corrected during the exam.
Common Questions 🤔
Your admission will be rejected during screening. Universities check that your JAMB subjects match your course requirements. Even if you score 350, wrong subjects will disqualify you at the departmental level. Always confirm your combination before registering.
Yes — some combinations work for more than one course. For example, English, Mathematics, Economics and Government works for Economics, Political Science, and several Business courses. That is why students who are undecided between courses in the same faculty often choose a broad combination.
No — Mathematics is not compulsory for all courses. It is required for Science, Engineering, and most Social Science courses. However, for pure Arts courses like History, Religious Studies, or Languages, Mathematics is not required in JAMB. Some universities may still require it at O'Level level though.
No — JAMB allows you to register any subject regardless of what you studied in secondary school. However, you must also have that subject as a credit in your O'Level result for it to count during university screening. Registering a subject you don't have at O'Level is a waste of one of your 4 slots.
JAMB subject combination is what you register and sit for in the UTME exam — 4 subjects including English. O'Level subject combination is what you sat for in WAEC or NECO. Universities require both. Your JAMB subjects and your O'Level subjects must both satisfy the course requirements for admission to go through.
