How to Check Your Result — Step by Step 🪜

Go to the WAEC Result Checker Website
Open your browser and go to waecdirect.org. This is the only official WAEC result checking portal. Avoid any other websites claiming to check WAEC results — they are scams or phishing sites trying to steal your details.

Select "Check WAEC Result"
On the homepage, click on the "Check WAEC Result" or "SSCE Result" button. Make sure you are selecting the right exam type — either May/June (for school candidates) or November/December (for GCE/private candidates).

Enter Your Exam Number and Year
Type in your 7-digit WAEC examination number exactly as it appears on your exam slip. Then select the exam year from the dropdown. Double-check both — an incorrect exam number will show someone else's result or an error.

Enter Your Scratch Card Details
Enter the serial number and PIN from your WAEC scratch card. The serial number is usually printed on the card. The PIN is under the scratch-off panel. Enter both carefully — they are case-sensitive.

Submit and View Your Result
Click the submit button. If all details are correct, your result will load showing your grades for each subject. Take a screenshot or print the page for your records.

Your result is available and shows your grades for all subjects. This is what you want to see. Check all grades carefully and compare them with your expected performance.

Result Pending / Not Yet Released
WAEC has not yet released results for your sitting. This is common in the weeks after the exam. Check back regularly — WAEC usually releases results 3 to 8 weeks after the last paper.

Result Withheld
Your result has been withheld by WAEC. This usually happens due to suspected examination malpractice, outstanding fees, or administrative issues at your school. Contact your school principal or visit the nearest WAEC office with your exam slip and identification to find out the specific reason.

Result Cancelled
WAEC has cancelled your result or a specific subject. This is typically due to confirmed examination malpractice. A cancelled result means the affected subject(s) will not appear as valid on your certificate. You will need to resit the cancelled subject(s).
Common Problems & What to Do 🛠️
Wrong name or date of birth on my result
This is a data entry error from your school's registration. Visit your school immediately — the principal needs to write a letter to WAEC on school letterhead requesting a correction. Bring your original admission letter, birth certificate and exam slip as evidence.
My exam number is not found
Double-check you are entering the correct 7-digit number and the right exam year. If the number is definitely correct, contact your school — there may have been a registration issue. Your school can verify with WAEC directly.
My scratch card PIN is not working
Make sure you entered the PIN exactly as shown — no spaces, correct capitalisation. If the card has been used before, it will not work again. Check if the silver panel was already scratched before you bought it — this is a sign the card may have been tampered with. Buy a new card from an authorised source.
One of my subjects is missing from my result
If a subject you sat for is not showing on your result, it may have been withheld pending investigation, or there could be a registration error. Contact WAEC directly or through your school with your exam slip showing you registered for that subject.
My result shows a different grade than I expected
WAEC marking is final after the standard marking process. However, you can apply for a result re-check (remarking) through WAEC if you believe there was a marking error. This involves a fee and is done through your school or directly at a WAEC office.
WAEC SSCE vs WAEC GCE — What's the Difference? 🎓

WAEC SSCE (May/June)
Written by school candidates — students currently enrolled in secondary school. This is the standard WAEC exam most students sit in their final year of secondary school. Results are released around August–September of the same year.

WAEC GCE (Nov/Dec)
Written by private candidates — graduates resitting to improve grades, or those who missed the May/June sitting. The GCE is conducted between October and December and results are released the following year around February–March.
