JAMB CRS has four sections: Section A (Creation to the Division of the Kingdom — 8 topics), Section B (Division of the Kingdom to the Return from Exile and the Prophets — 9 topics), Section C (Four Gospels and Acts of the Apostles — 19 topics), and Section D (Selected Epistles — 16 topics). Section C carries the most topics and is typically the highest-scoring section.
JAMB sets 60 questions in Christian Religious Studies, drawn from all four sections. Sections C and D together usually account for the majority of questions since they cover the New Testament, which forms the core of the examination.
The highest-yield topics are the Miracles of Jesus, the Parables, the Trials and Death of Jesus, Justification by Faith, and the Mission to the Gentiles. From the Old Testament, the Covenant, Leadership Qualities (Moses, Joseph, Joshua) and the Prophets (Elijah, Amos, Hosea) are consistently tested.
JAMB recommends the Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible. All scripture references in the syllabus align with the RSV. While questions are not strictly translation-dependent, familiarity with RSV phrasing — especially for key passages like the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5–6) and the Epistles — is helpful.
Yes. Section D covers 16 topics from the Epistles — primarily Romans, Galatians, 1 Corinthians, Philippians, James and 1 Peter. Key themes include Justification by Faith, New Life in Christ, Spiritual Gifts, Christian Living in the Community and the Second Coming of Christ. These topics carry a significant share of the 60 questions.
The four-section structure of the CRS syllabus has been stable for several years. All sections — from Creation through to the Epistles — remain unchanged. Always practise past questions from 2023 onwards to stay current with JAMB's question style.
