JAMB Computer Studies covers nine main sections: Evolution of Computing, Fundamentals of Computing, Computer Application Packages, Managing Computer Files, Computer Maintenance and Safety, ICT, Developing Problem-Solving Skills, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and Computer Ethics and Human Issues.
JAMB sets 40 questions in Computer Studies. Questions are drawn from all sections of the syllabus, with heavy emphasis on Fundamentals of Computing, ICT, Application Packages and Problem-Solving Skills.
Fundamentals of Computing and ICT are the most consistently tested areas. Within Fundamentals, focus on hardware components (CPU, RAM, ROM, storage), logic gates and truth tables. In ICT, networking types and topologies, internet terminology and email features appear almost every year.
No. JAMB Computer Studies and Data Processing are two separate subjects with overlapping content but different syllabuses and exam formats. Computer Studies has a broader scope including AI, Robotics and Ethics, while Data Processing has a stronger emphasis on data organisation and practical office applications.
JAMB tests programming language classifications (machine, assembly, high-level), algorithm properties, flowchart symbols, program development steps, the SDLC, and the differences between interpreters and compilers. You are expected to draw simple flowcharts and construct truth tables for logic gates.
The current syllabus added a dedicated section on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, reflecting JAMB's update to include emerging technologies. Sections on machine learning branches, robot components and types, and AI application areas are now examinable. Practice past questions from 2023 onwards alongside the updated syllabus.
