Common Questions 🤔
JAMB Economics covers 23 topics spanning microeconomics and macroeconomics: from basic concepts, demand, supply and market structures, through national income, money and financial institutions, to public finance, international trade, agriculture, industry and population. Nigerian-specific topics like natural resources, NNPC/OPEC, and revenue allocation are also tested.
JAMB sets 40 questions in Economics. Questions are drawn from both micro and macro sections, with consistent emphasis on Demand, Supply, Price Determination, National Income, Money and Inflation, and Public Finance.
Theory of Demand (Topic 4) and Theory of Supply (Topic 6) are tested every year without exception. National Income (Topic 11), Money and Inflation (Topic 12), and Market Structures (Topic 10) are also perennial high-yield areas. For the Nigeria-focused topics, Public Finance (Topic 14) and Agriculture (Topic 16) regularly appear.
JAMB Economics requires numerical competence in several areas: computing price, income and cross elasticity of demand and supply; calculating national income and the multiplier; computing the consumer price index (CPI); determining equilibrium price and quantity using demand and supply equations; and calculating different types of capital and profit in the context of business organisations.
The PPF shows the maximum combination of two goods an economy can produce given its resources and technology. JAMB uses it to illustrate opportunity cost, scarcity and the economic problem of choice. A point inside the frontier indicates inefficiency; a point on it indicates full efficiency; and a point outside it is currently unattainable. Shifts in the PPF represent economic growth.
The JAMB Economics syllabus has been broadly stable. Contemporary issues such as deregulation, banking sector consolidation and cash policy reform (Topic 2) were added to reflect Nigerian economic realities. Ensure you cover all 23 topics and practise past questions from 2023 to stay aligned with current question patterns.
