JAMB Government has four parts: Part I (Elements of Government), Part II (Political Development in Nigeria), Part III (Foreign Policy and Nigeria's Relationship with the International Community), and Part IV (International Organizations). The syllabus covers both theoretical governance concepts and Nigeria's specific political history.
JAMB sets 60 questions in Government. The questions are drawn from all four parts of the syllabus, with Part I and Part II typically carrying the most weight since they cover the widest range of topics.
Part II (Political Development in Nigeria) is widely considered the highest-yield section. It covers Nigeria's constitutional history from 1922 to the present, the military era, Nigerian federalism, local government and political parties across all republics — all of which appear consistently in JAMB questions.
You must know all the major Nigerian constitutions: the Clifford (1922), Richards (1946), Macpherson (1951), Lyttleton (1954), Independence (1960), Republican (1963), 1979, 1989 and 1999 (as amended) Constitutions. For each, know the key features, merits and demerits — JAMB tests these regularly.
Yes. Parts III and IV of the syllabus focus on Nigeria's foreign policy and international organisations including the UN, AU, ECOWAS, Commonwealth and OPEC. You should know the origin, objectives, structure, functions, achievements and problems of each organisation.
The core structure of the Government syllabus has remained stable. The four parts — Elements of Government, Political Development in Nigeria, Foreign Policy and International Organizations — are unchanged. Always practise past questions from 2023 onwards to stay current with JAMB's question style.
