Common Questions 🤔
For Economics, Accounting, Banking & Finance, and Marketing — yes, Mathematics is compulsory. For Political Science, Sociology, Mass Communication, and Social Work — Mathematics is generally not required in JAMB, though some universities may require it at O'Level level. Always confirm with your specific school.
For most Social Science courses, Economics is the preferred subject — not Commerce. Commerce is usually accepted as the 4th optional subject but not as a replacement for Economics. If Economics is listed as compulsory for your course, you must register Economics, not Commerce.
For top universities like UNILAG, UI, OAU — aim for 260–280+. For Economics especially, competition is high. For state universities and newer federal universities, 200–230 may be sufficient. The subject combination must be correct regardless of score.
It depends on the university. Some schools place Mass Communication under Arts while others place it under Social Science. The subject combination is essentially the same in both cases — English, Literature, Government/Economics, and one more humanities subject. Literature in English is the strongest choice regardless of which faculty your school places it in.
