Civil Engineering
One of the most competitive engineering courses. Aim for 260+ in JAMB for top federal universities.
Structural Engineering
Building / Building Technology
Building Technology sometimes accepts Fine Art or Geography as the 4th subject in place of Chemistry — check your school.

Mechanical Engineering
Production Engineering / Industrial Engineering
Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering
Very few universities offer this in Nigeria. UNILAG and UNIBEN are the main options. Minimum JAMB score is typically 280+.
⚡ Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Electrical / Electronic Engineering
Physics is the single most important subject here — electricity, circuits and electromagnetism are core topics.
Computer Engineering
Do not confuse with Computer Science. Computer Engineering is in the Engineering faculty and requires Chemistry. Computer Science does not always require Chemistry.

Chemical Engineering
Chemistry carries more weight here than in other engineering disciplines. Strong Chemistry O'Level credit is essential.
Petroleum Engineering
One of the highest-demand courses in Nigeria. Very competitive — UNILAG, UI, FUTO, UNIBEN. Aim for 280+ JAMB score.

Agricultural Engineering
Agricultural Engineering is more flexible — Biology or Agricultural Science may substitute Chemistry as the 4th subject.
Biomedical Engineering
Unique in that Biology may substitute Chemistry. Check your specific university — requirements vary widely.

Common Questions 🤔
For most engineering courses — no. English + Mathematics + Physics + Chemistry is the standard combination. The only exceptions are Agricultural Engineering and Biomedical Engineering where Biology may substitute Chemistry. For Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering — Chemistry is required.
For federal universities like UNILAG, UI, UNIBEN, FUTO — aim for 260–300+. Petroleum, Civil and Computer Engineering are the most competitive. For state universities, 200–230 may be sufficient depending on the school. The score alone is not enough — you also need the right O'Level credits.
Most engineering programs require at least 5 credits including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language at O'Level (WAEC or NECO). These credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings — and most top universities require them in one sitting. Biology is usually not compulsory at O'Level for engineering.
Computer Engineering is in the Faculty of Engineering — it requires Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. Computer Science is in the Faculty of Science — it requires Physics, Mathematics and may allow Biology or Economics as the 4th subject instead of Chemistry. The courses are different at degree level: Computer Engineering focuses on hardware and systems, Computer Science on software and algorithms.
