JAMB Subject Combination for Medicine & Health

For federal universities — UNILAG, UI, UNIBEN, ABU, UNIPORT — aim for 300 or above. The cut-off marks change every year but Medicine is consistently the most competitive course. Even with the right score, you still need to pass the Post-UTME screening and have the required O'Level credits.

In most federal universities offering MBBS — no. Physics is required, not just preferred. UNILAG, UI, UNIBEN, OAU all require Physics for Medicine. A few private universities may accept Mathematics, but if your target school is a federal university, register Physics. Do not risk it.

If you are missing Physics at O'Level, most federal medical schools will reject your application regardless of your JAMB score. You would need to resit WAEC or NECO to obtain the Physics credit before applying. Some private universities are more flexible — but they are the minority. But you cannot transfer between universities via JAMB for a different course after admission. If you don't get Medicine, you can accept Pharmacy, Nursing or another health science course and attempt the transfer internally later.

Yes — for every course on this page, Biology is either compulsory or strongly required. This is the health sciences — the human body is the subject matter. You cannot study Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, or any allied health course without Biology in both your JAMB subjects and your O'Level result.

Medicine (MBBS) is consistently the most competitive — cut-offs at top schools sit between 300 and 360. Dentistry (BDS) uses the same subject combination but typically has slightly lower cut-off marks — around 280–320 at comparable schools. Both are very demanding and require strong Post-UTME performance in addition to the JAMB score.

Agricultural Science is accepted as a replacement for Physics in Veterinary Medicine at some universities, and for Nutrition & Dietetics at universities that place it under Agriculture. It is generally NOT accepted for MBBS, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physiotherapy or Radiography. If you are targeting those courses, register Physics — not Agricultural Science.
